    Dear Roger,This city is over 3000 years old! The name means : "Victory against the Thessalians" and is dedicated to the Sister of the Alexander the Great! He born close here in Pella...1500 years later the city was one of the greatest cities of the Byzantine Empire..Later was the bigest city in Balkan..etc etc So it is not a surprise that these places got this "other" atmospaire than "new" cities in the USA.
